What about the Apple TV IP Integration und Voice Commands that was announced on Kickstarter on 17. Mai 2025? Is there a new release date?

We are having challenge running the Apple TV build apk directly as a system app on the RS90 because the Android OS blocks the chaqoupy SDK which allows us to use python library to run under system app.

So the firmware team is addressing this issue. If it cannot be solved we will add an auxiliary app which will work for integrations based on python. This build runs Apple TV, Tizen, WebOS integration and is already working as normal app in Android.

Thank you for your detailed explanation regarding the Apple TV integration and the challenges with using the Chaquopy SDK in a system app.

However, based on my own testing and available alternatives, I would like to respectfully share some observations:

There are numerous Android apps — many of which have been downloaded millions of times — that are able to control Apple TVs directly over the network, using only the app itself. These apps do not rely on external frameworks or Python-based solutions, and they typically require nothing more than entering the AirPlay pairing code. No system-level privileges or auxiliary apps are needed.

From a user’s perspective, it seems unnecessary to rely on a Python-based architecture when core control functions (navigation, play/pause, etc.) can clearly be implemented natively within the RS90’s own app using Kotlin or Java.

Given that the RS90 already uses Android 12, and the app is developed in Kotlin, it would be reasonable to expect direct Apple TV control to be integrated natively — especially when simpler third-party apps already achieve this successfully.

I understand that more advanced features like cover art or app status may require deeper protocol integration (as provided for example by pyatv), but for core control, the reliance on Python feels unnecessarily complex and potentially fragile in the long run.

I hope you will consider implementing native Apple TV control directly in the RS90 app itself, without the need for additional background services. This would simplify the setup, improve reliability, and make the experience more seamless for users.

The official way to control Apple TV is using MFI approved bluetooth or MFI Linux module.

Those third-party app open code, we do also have in Kotlin but they cannot run as system app.

The app you refer are also using the same Pyatv python module. We spent lot to time researching this. It generates the 4 digit code on the Apple TV and connects. There is nothing else to check so we are also dependent on the same solution. In future our extenders will be MFI approved so we will be able to control using them.

Since the update I have a small error. With my watch tv sequence I have the set top box Deutsche Telecom 488. Unfortunately, the channel+ and channel - no longer work. With the set top box it works. not in the sequence.

Ok we will check this on Monday.
