Killer Feature? USB-C IR Receiver

Hi @ccsfounder, I thought i’d break out this idea from my other thread, as that’s gone in a different direction.

Would the RS90, in theory, be able to work with a small IR receiver over USB-C?
This could give the RS90 an epic FlipperZero-like ability to clone any remote’s button presses.

No need to even use the companion app.
It wouldn’t need to hit your servers at all, as it’s just local storage to save the RAW data down.

Just as an example, here’s my use-case – which while the inputs will differ, I imagine would mirror a large amount of existing/future users:

  • Set a nice touchscreen bunch of icons for my inputs on my Amp:
    – Switch 2
    – PS5 Pro
    – Xbox Series X
    – Dreamcast (Still waiting for SEGA to release a new one here! ^_^)
    – UHD-4K Player
    – HD-DVD/LD/VHS/BETAMAX (on it’s own switcher)
    – AUX
    – Apple TV

  • Set core up/down/left/right OK, back etc buttons for Apple TV

  • Set power button and others to my Amp

Back to the idea/ask above… what do you think?

We already explored this idea, we hired an agency in China to test this for us but there are no IR receivers available in the market. Though we purchased few but they only works with their defined Apps which essentially just works like conventional IR database app and sending IR commands. So first we need to build this hardware which will works as IR reader.

Now this will be good idea for loading IR files locally but it will not be solving the issue for everyone which is lack of IR data in our database. So we scrapped this idea of developing one. We will explore this with some DIY solutions and see if that is feasible to release as DIY project.
