LG WebOS discussion

I was excited that IP support now exists for LG WebOS and thought maybe that would allow me to get the remote working, but it’s still not working.

I went to Device Pool and selected Smart TV. It found my LG TV, which was a good start. It asks me to “Select TV”. There are a few options, none of which say LG, but one says WebOS, so I assume that’s the one and select it. It adds the device. Seemingly, so far so good.

I also add my Apple TV and Sonos without issue.

Then I try to create a Watch TV sequence. That’s where things go wrong. It asks me to
Select the Source device. I’m not really sure what that means, but I pick LG TV. Then it asks for input selection. The screen is blank, however. There are no options to select. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I press Next. Nothing happens. I have to press next 2 more times before it finally moves on. It then asks me to select the device to change channels. Again, there are no options to select. I press next and it asks about volume. Again, no options to select. I press next again and it then asks me to tap done to complete the sequence. I do so.

Now I have a watch TV sequence, but it doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t control the TV, it doesn’t turn on the TV, it doesn’t navigate, change channels, volume or anything. It’s just as much of a dead brick as it’s been the last couple of months since I received it.

Any idea what’s going on and why it’s still not working? Is the WebOS functionality not actually functional?

Before going to sequence/Macro why not just setup each device individually. If you have Apple TV or WebOS add it to device pool>Room. Now Sync Haptique and test all commands first. Once you are convinced you should move to Sequence. The device is not a dead brick for sure. Just little knowhow is important. The problem here is no one wants to read user manual and do hands on first.

What you are doing is setting up smart sequence which is a Wizard to setup simple Harmony like activity.

What it actually does is customise the Keymapping and create On & Off sequence for you. Before using this sequence you should check which On command are sent, what is key mapping to fix any such issue. It is simple logic when you select source means the Media content player in your case it is Apple TV or could also be LG OS as it has content, the channel question is for the TV and Set top box as the up and down buttons will be mapped according to your selection. Next will be Input selection, meaning HDMI 1 or 2 on the TV. Now here in most cases this works well with IR devices but not with IP devices like in your case.

I advise you to choose custom sequence. Why? Because the source which you selected is for mapping the cursor button and you can do it manually by mapping them as per your requirement rather than system doing it. But first make sure the device individually works(by adding to a room).

The WebOS integration is working well, however, I am unable to turn on the TV since the network seems to disconnect when it is off. If I run a ping on the TVs IP, it drops shortly after I shut off the TV. As such, the remote cannot turn it on.

I have the TV on a wired ethernet connection. After some searching, I found to try to toggle the Quick Start+ on or off. It was ON and I set it to OFF with no change.

I have an LG C1 from around 2021.

I found a workaround using Wake On Lan through a home assistant integration. This works to turn on the TV, but every time I turn on the TV, the WebOS integration asks for a PIN when I try and use the TV controls.

We can implement WOL, lets us discuss with devs and get back to you.

Ok, great. It’s still not usable with the WOL workaround. Each time I turn on via a sequence, the media player UI for the LG prompts with a PIN. PIN is different every time.

Thanks for the insights. I’m excited to explore that user manual. I was searching for one, but all I was able to find was the long and thin PDF, which doesn’t contain much info. I’m sure an in depth user manual will help explain many of the mysteries that I’m still hung up on. I will try what you suggest and also spend time with the manual and hopefully I’ll be able to come up with something workable.

We are always here to help. Keep in touch.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t been able to get anything to work. As suggested, I created a couple custom sequences, one to control the TV directly and one to control the Apple TV. I then created key maps for those sequences so that all the RS80 buttons would have functions for each sequence. I then assigned those sequences to my room. This all seemed to work fine.

But when I try to use the sequences, nothing happens. When I tap the sequences (which are just supposed to turn things on), nothing happens. When I turn the tv and Apple TV on with remotes, and I lock the sequences, I still can’t control anything.

Any idea what I’m still doing wrong? I took a look through the manual, but it seems like I’ve done what the manual suggests. Thanks for the help.

I should add, the TV is an LG I set up via IP as a WebOS device. And the Apple TV I also set up as an IP device through the specific Apple TV device option.

First of all leave the Sequence part and make sure Haptique is communicating your devices. Add Apple TV to a Room. Now in the Haptique>Rooms>Apple TV - HOLD TO OPEN the UI. You will be prompted a 4 digit code on your Apple TV(Haptique & Apple TV has to be in the same WiFi). Once you enter the code you will se UI to handle Apple TV. Now you should create a sequence as without this the sequence will not work.

Same for the LG, map it to room and navigate the UI make sure it works for you before committing to a sequence.

I don’t think they’re working properly then because when I try that, nothing happens. I have the Haptique and Apple TV on the same wifi. Is there something else I should be doing when I set up these devices to get them to work? There didn’t seem to really be any options. It found my Apple TV and then I pressed “submit.” What else can I do to get it to work?

Same with the TV. It found the TV, I chose “WebOS” and then pressed submit.

First task is to add device to the Device Pool.

Second to add to the room

Advance is to create Sequence.>Use as Macros or Keep in the room.

So what are you doing is just adding to the Device pool but you need to take it ahead.

Alright, I’ve made some progress, but still having some issues.

I already had the devices added to my room–I think it must have happened automatically when I created the devices because I didn’t do that myself. But just to be sure, I deleted them from my room and then re-added them. When I went to sync the changes to the remote, it said there was a firmware update. So I updated. As soon as the update was finished, I got a message on my TV that said the RS90 was connected, so that seemed promising. However, the remote still wasn’t able to control anything, no matter what device I was in, or what sequence I tried to use (locked).

I then tried the Apple TV device, and that one worked (I don’t know if it was because I re-added the device to my room, or if it had something to do with the firmware update). It asked me for a 4-digit pin, and once entered, it connected. And the remote has been able to control the Apple TV. That’s the first time the remote has ever been able to control anything, so that seems like a meaningful first step.

Here are the questions/issues that remain:

(1) When I long press on the Apple TV device, I can control the Apple TV, and I’m also able to control the volume (which is handled by my Sonos). When I try to use the Apple TV sequence I created, where I keymapped the volume keys to the Sonos, the volume doesn’t work. I tried keymapping volume to the Sonos or the TV (the Apple TV doesn’t have a volume option), and no matter what, I’m not able to control volume through the Apple TV sequence. Any idea how I can fix that?

(2) The mute button doesn’t work on either the Apple TV device, or the Apple TV sequence. It’s also keymapped in the Apple TV sequence (as far as I can tell, there’s no way to keymap a device, right?) and I tried keymapping to the TV or to the Sonos, and either way, the mute doesn’t work. Any thoughts on how I can get that working?

(3) I’m still not able to connect to the TV at all–or at least, I’m not able to control the TV at all. As I mentioned, I did get that message that the RS90 was connected. But when I wasn’t able to control anything, I used the normal TV remote to control the TV and then I got a message that the RS90 was disconnected. I haven’t been able to “connect” again since, and either way, even when it was connected, I still couldn’t control anything. Any idea on how to fix that problem?

Thanks for the help!

Apple TV volume and mute are not yet supported via IP integration of RS90. We are working on it.

I have an issue where each time I start a sequence with Apple TV and LG (WebOS), I have to enter a PIN in order to use the volume and other controls (which are mapped to the LG TV). After the sequence is started, I swipe up to select the LG TV, then I get an option to enter a PIN which is displayed on the TV. Then the volume and other buttons to the LG TV work. Is there a way to permanently connect the remote to the TV without having to enter a PIN each time?

We fix this for Tizen I am sure we can fix it for WebOS too.

Great! Thanks. I appreciate your hard work and dedication creating the best remote since the harmony.

Hi CSSFOUNDER,

Just checking in to see if there has been any progress on this issue? It’s become so unstable where sometimes even after restarting the remote, I can’t get to the screen to enter a PIN. Most of the time I have to use the Apple TV remote to turn both on since often neither will turn on with the RS90 remote. After the TV and Apple TV are on, when I switch to the LG TV on the remote, it, more often than not, will not display a PIN on the TV screen and just shows an empty touchpad like screen on the remote. I can try over and over and no luck.

Every once in a while it does activate a PIN on the TV screen and works when I enter it. But this only works once every few days.

Currently, It’s just easier to use the Apple TV remote to turn on and control everything so the RS90 just sits on the base unused.

Thanks for any update you have.

The only solution to me is turning On the LG using Infrared because there is Wake on Lan process which we can implement but it will take more time. To make sure IR reaches the TV. I suggest to get the IR+RF hub, it makes communication more solid with IR devices.
